CLASSES

As well as the technical teaching of ballet, Jazz and Hip Hop, it is aimed that the students learn co-ordination, fitness, musicality, confidence and self-expression.

Ballet

Ballet is offered from 3 years of age through to Advanced 2.  We teach the Royal Academy of Dance Syllabus from Pre-Primary (5 years) and the children are given the option of sitting these examinations.

Pre-School ballet classes provide a foundation in dance. The children are introduced to basic movements i.e. jumping, hopping, skipping as well as confidence, musicality and expression. The most important thing is to have fun with music and rhythm.

Jazz

American Jazz classes are available from 5 years of age and are for children of all abilities.  This is available to all children and not just the current ballet students.  Enrolment is now open – classes are strictly limited so please get in quickly.

The ballet school follows the Royal Academy of Dance graded and vocational exams. Students are encouraged to enter exams but it is not compulsory.

Pre-Primary to Grade 1 attend 1 class per week with additional lessons closer to the exam date.

From Grade 2, students attend 2 classes per week.

Vocational students are expected to attend at least 3 classes per week.

All students are given the opportunity to participate in our annual production held at the end of the year at the Lower Hutt Little Theatre.

Private coaching for exam preparation and competitions is also available upon request.

The studio follows similar dates as primary schools.

No lessons are held on public holidays.

Term fees are payable in advance at the beginning of each term. Fees are not refunded if a student leaves during the term.

Parents are welcome to come inside the studio and watch classes – it is actually something we encourage. There are also viewing windows and these are useful if parents have small children that could cause distraction to the students.

Ballet Students:

All students must be dressed in the correct uniform for lessons as it is important to learn the discipline of dance from the beginning of their training. Girls must have their hair secured in a bun.
